Lifting Hands International
Lifting Hands International is a humanitarian non-profit dedicated to providing help for asylum seekers and refugees, within a range of programs and locations around the globe. At the LHI Community Center in Serres, Northern Greece, the full-time volunteer team provides vital services and activities for a camp of 1000+ asylum seekers and refugees, such as Child & Female Friendly Spaces, Language classes, Recreational Activities, weekly fresh produce and hygiene distribution, and seasonal clothing distribution.

What will I be doing?
You will work with asylum seekers and refugees from sub-saharan and northern Africa, the middle east, and central Asia. Currently, the two largest groups of refugees we work with are Afghans and Iraqi Yazidis . In the LHI Community Center, which is located 200m from the camp, the project offers various programs and services of psychological support.
Depending on your skills, experiences and personal preferences, you will be able to support the following programmes:
- Educational program (teaching English or German)
- Children Friendly Space (CFS)
- Female Friendly Space (FFS)
- Music & Art Workshops
- Yoga, Fitness and Dance Classes
- Professional Development program
Or aid one of the following areas:
- Community Garden
- Weekly Aid Distributions
- Logistics & Maintenance of program facilities
Volunteers with unique skills and talents are welcomed on to the team and the project is open to volunteers hosting workshops and other creative opportunities for the camp residents.
What impact would I have?
The team aims to support the refugee’s journey toward building resilience through Psycho-Social Support activities. Volunteers in every program are at the forefront of facilitating activities and implementing LHI’s programs - through recreational programs, bring health and improve the quality of life, and offer opportunities for educational advancement.
Who will I be working with?
You would be working with a team of volunteers of all ages, with different backgrounds from around the world. This includes the close collaboration with Community Volunteers, who bring, next to their program specific skills and experience, the contextual and cultural understanding, interests and needs of the residents of the camp to the international program teams.

Accommodation
You may stay in one of the volunteer apartments in the center of Serres or in private accommodation. Volunteers staying up to 90 days pay a rent contribution of 7 €/ night.
Volunteers staying 90+ days pay no rent.
